This project involved creating a dedicated, high-performance home theater and karaoke system where all technology is fully integrated and controlled via a custom iPad interface.

Since movie performance was the top priority, the client requested a very large screen. We recommended the Steinway Lyngdorf S-Series speakers paired with LS woofers. To maximize the Ambient Enhancing Radiation (AER) dipole effect of the Model S speakers, we wall-mounted them rather than placing them in-wall, which enhanced both the visual presence and the sonic depth of the soundstage. To maintain a clean look, the bulky commercial karaoke speakers were hidden behind acoustically transparent fabric panels. All processing and amplification gear was housed neatly in corner shelving, with a Crestron control system allowing the owner to control the entire theater with a single touch. Another significant challenge was the raised, hollow wooden floor that had been installed before we joined the project. The hollow space acted as a resonator, creating muddy bass. We solved this by packing the underfloor cavity with dense rockwool, dampening the resonance and restoring a tight, well-defined low-frequency response.
